Book of Life is in Cinemas in the US from today (Oct 17th)

The art book is already available from Amazon and from what I hear it’s FANTASTIC

My plea to you is this.

Do not ignore this movie.

Make this thing EXPLODE on it’s opening weekend.

If you have ever complained about the lack of…

What about The Book of Life makes you so excited to see it? Not that there's anything wrong with it, it looks like a great family movie. Just curious.

Lots of things.

It’s kinda hard to even begin I guess, literally EVERYTHING about the film makes me excited/happy! If theres ever been an animated film more up my alley (CGI anyways) I can’t think of any.

FIRSTLY, the artist directing the film is one of my all time FAVORITE artists. Jorge Gutierrez Had a huge influence on me when I was in high school. mostly through his animated Nick series “El Tigre” which quickly became one of my favorite animated series ever! Not only is it a very bright and expressive style, but it is just oooooozing cultural influence.

Being latina, I really connected with seeing a Latino culture represented on TV, it just felt right.

SECONDLY

Dia de los muertos is one of my FAVORITE holidays to exist.

Though I am not Mexican, I am half El Salvadorian, and el salvadorian’s do not celebrate Day of the dead nearly to the extent it is celebrated in mexico. The warmth and familial love that surrounds the holiday is extremely akin to the latino culture. For me, I ADORE the extravagance and decorativeness of the holiday as it’s celebrated in Mexico. If you guys haven’t noticed from my art, I am very inspired by bright and explosive color, and the holiday full of that. PLUS it is a very loving and uplifting holiday. celebrating the lost ones past and seeing death as just the start of something new, and not something to be feared. I think that is a very positive sort of holiday to have in this day and age, and i feel a film for kids especially exploring this sort of cultural message could be very easing in such a dark time in the world.

I personally am a VERY family oriented person, partially because of my culture, but also just because of how I was raised. So holidays and stories that involved cherishing your family are very inspiring and important to me <3

LASTLY

I think that this film is a HUGE deal for broadening the possibilities for more diverse cultures to be represented in animation!

This film is about a very unique and extremely visually fun Mexican holiday, that has ENDLESS possibilities in terms of animation adaption, and it’s being done by very passionate mexican artists. Whats not to be excited for! I’m hoping this film not only opens the door for more hispanic/Latino representation in film and animation, but also just opens to door for more artists of all kinds of cultural backgrounds, to be able to too their own stories and explore their own cultures to share with the world.

I think educating people about other cultures is a perfect way to help people understand and respect people and cultures that seem foreign to them. The more we share and learn about each other, the less closed off and segregated we will be! At least that is what I think.

Anyways, yeah. To me “The Book of Life” is MUCH more then just a “great family movie” its is revolutionary for the animation world, and it could pave the way for so many more possibilities in this very limited pool of animated film expectations and representations! <3

I guess besides that-

the characters, the art, the animation, the style, the music, the…. EVERYTHING!!

I’m SO EXCITED AHHH <3

I realize that summer has come to an end, but I really wanted to finish this one of Sapphirine when she was still human enjoying a pleasant day at her island home before things went crazy. Tried some different things here, and I am overall pleased with the result. I hope you enjoy as well!
